Biography

Tate Rosner McRae, born on July 1, 2003, in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, is a singer, songwriter, and dancer. At the age of four, she moved with her family to Oman due to her father's work, where her mother taught dance. They returned to Calgary when she was eight, and she began intensive dance training. Early in her career, she also did voice acting, voicing the character Spot Splatter Splash in the "Lalaloopsy" franchise.

Dance Career

McRae first gained significant recognition as a dancer. In 2013, she won Mini Best Female Dancer at The Dance Awards in New York City. She became the first Canadian finalist on the American reality television show So You Think You Can Dance: The Next Generation in 2016, placing third. Her dancing accolades also include being named Best Female Dancer multiple times at the prestigious NYC Dance Awards.

Music Career

2017–2020: YouTube Beginnings and Breakthrough

In 2017, McRae started a YouTube series called "Create With Tate," where she showcased original songs. Her song "One Day" went viral, amassing over 40 million views and leading to her signing with RCA Records in 2019. She released her debut EP, All the Things I Never Said, in January 2020. Later that year, her single "You Broke Me First" became an international hit, reaching number 17 on the Billboard Hot 100 and solidifying her place in the pop music scene.

2021–2022: EPs and Debut Album

In 2021, McRae released her second EP, Too Young to Be Sad, which became the most-streamed female EP of the year on Spotify. Her debut studio album, I Used to Think I Could Fly, was released in May 2022. The album was a commercial success, debuting in the top ten in several countries and reaching number 13 on the US Billboard 200. A standout single from the album, "She's All I Wanna Be," became a top-ten hit in Canada.

2023–Present: Think Later and So Close to What

McRae adopted a more pop-oriented sound for her second album. In 2023, she released the single "Greedy," which achieved worldwide success, topping charts including the Billboard Global 200 and the Canadian Hot 100. The song was the lead single for her second studio album, Think Later, released in December 2023. The album, co-executive produced by Ryan Tedder, debuted in the top five in several countries. At the 2024 Juno Awards, McRae won Artist of the Year and Single of the Year for "Greedy". Her third studio album, So Close to What, was released in 2025 and topped charts worldwide.
