Biography

Billie Eilish Pirate Baird O'Connell was born in Los Angeles, California on December 18, 2001. She was born into a family of actors and musicians. Her parents, Maggie Baird and Patrick O'Connell, homeschooled her and her older brother, Finneas O'Connell. From a young age, Eilish was immersed in music, joining the Los Angeles Children's Chorus at age eight and writing her first song at eleven.

Career Beginnings and Breakthrough

Eilish's career took off in 2015 with the release of the song "Ocean Eyes," written and produced by her brother Finneas. Initially uploaded to SoundCloud for her dance teacher, the song quickly went viral, leading to a record deal with Darkroom/Interscope Records. In 2017, she released her debut EP, "Don't Smile at Me," which included the hit "Bellyache" and reached the top 15 in the US, UK, Canada, and Australia.

When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?

Eilish's debut studio album, "When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?", was released in March 2019 and debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart. The album featured the single "Bad Guy," which became her first number-one song on the Billboard Hot 100. The album's success led to a major tour and established Eilish as a global music sensation. At the 2020 Grammy Awards, she became the youngest artist and the first woman to win the four main categories: Album of the Year, Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best New Artist.

Subsequent Work and Accolades

In 2020, Eilish wrote and performed the title track for the James Bond film "No Time to Die," which won an Academy Award for Best Original Song. Her second album, "Happier Than Ever," was released in 2021 and topped the charts in 25 countries. She co-wrote the song "What Was I Made For?" for the 2023 movie "Barbie," earning her a second Academy Award and making her the youngest two-time Oscar winner. Her third studio album, "Hit Me Hard and Soft," was released in 2024 to critical acclaim and included the top-five singles "Lunch" and "Birds of a Feather".

Musical Style and Influence

Eilish is known for her genre-blending musical style, which often incorporates elements of pop, alternative pop, and electropop. Her music is characterized by her soft, whispery vocals, personal and often dark lyrics, and her brother Finneas's production. She is also recognized for her unique fashion sense, often featuring oversized, baggy clothing.
