Formation and Early Years
The band was founded by brothers Sam and Casey Harris along with childhood friend Noah Feldshuh. Initially, they performed under the name Ambassadors. The group started by playing local gigs and independently releasing their music, including the EPs "Ambassadors" (2009) and "Litost" (2012). Their song "Litost" gained online traction and radio play, which helped them secure a record deal.
Breakthrough and Success
After signing with Interscope Records, they changed their name to X Ambassadors. Their major-label debut EP, "Love Songs Drug Songs," was released in 2013. The band gained significant recognition after their song "Jungle," a collaboration with Jamie N Commons, was featured in a popular commercial. Their debut full-length album, "VHS," was released in 2015 and became a major success. The album included the hit singles "Renegades" and "Unsteady," which both achieved multi-platinum status. "VHS" reached number seven on the Billboard 200 chart.
Musical Style and Influences
X Ambassadors' music is described as alternative rock, pop rock, and indie rock. They draw inspiration from a wide range of genres, including hip-hop, R&B, and soul music, citing artists like Bruce Springsteen, Lauryn Hill, and Red Hot Chili Peppers as influences. The band often incorporates electronic elements into their rock foundation.
