Biography

The All-American Rejects are an American rock band that formed in Stillwater, Oklahoma, in 1999. The band consists of lead vocalist and bassist Tyson Ritter, lead guitarist Nick Wheeler, rhythm guitarist Mike Kennerty, and drummer Chris Gaylor. Ritter and Wheeler are the primary songwriters, with Wheeler composing the music and Ritter writing the lyrics. Kennerty and Gaylor joined the band in 2002.

Formation and Debut Album

Tyson Ritter and Nick Wheeler formed the band in 1999 while still in high school. They self-released a demo in 2001 which caught the attention of Doghouse Records, an independent label. The band then signed with DreamWorks Records to release their self-titled debut studio album, "The All-American Rejects," in 2002. The album achieved mainstream success, was certified platinum, and featured the hit single "Swing, Swing."

Mainstream Success

Move Along (2005)

The band's second album, "Move Along," released in 2005, brought them further into the mainstream. It produced three hit singles: "Dirty Little Secret," "Move Along," and "It Ends Tonight," all of which charted in the top fifteen on the Billboard Hot 100. The album has been certified triple platinum.

When the World Comes Down (2008)

Their third album, "When the World Comes Down," was released in 2008. The lead single, "Gives You Hell," became their most successful song, reaching number 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 and charting in the top 5 in several other countries. The song was certified multi-platinum for selling over four million copies in the United States. The album itself was certified gold.

Later Career

Kids in the Street (2012)

The All-American Rejects' fourth studio album, "Kids in the Street," was released in 2012 and debuted at number 18 on the Billboard 200 chart. The album was produced by Greg Wells and showed a more diverse range of influences. It was their last full studio album for over a decade.

Recent Activities

The band released a two-song EP titled "Sweat" in 2017. In May 2025, the band embarked on a "House Party Tour," playing at unconventional venues like bowling alleys and backyards in protest of high ticket prices for arena shows. They released a new single, "Sandbox," in May 2025, their first in over a decade. A new single, "Easy Come, Easy Go," followed in June 2025, with a new album announced for release in January 2026.
