Biography

Spin Doctors are an American rock band formed in New York City in 1988. The classic lineup consisted of Chris Barron (lead vocals), Eric Schenkman (guitar and vocals), Mark White (bass), and Aaron Comess (drums). The band's origins trace back to a group called Trucking Company, which included Schenkman, Barron, and John Popper of Blues Traveler. After Popper's departure to focus on his main band, the remaining members formed Spin Doctors, adding Comess and White by the spring of 1989. They became known for their extensive live shows and built a grassroots following in the New York City club scene.

Breakthrough with Pocket Full of Kryptonite

In 1990, Spin Doctors signed with Epic Records. Their debut studio album, "Pocket Full of Kryptonite," was released in August 1991. Initially, the album had modest sales, but extensive touring and growing radio play for the single "Little Miss Can't Be Wrong" in mid-1992 propelled the band to mainstream success. The follow-up single, "Two Princes," became a massive international hit, peaking at No. 7 on the Billboard Hot 100. "Two Princes" also earned them a Grammy nomination for Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal. "Pocket Full of Kryptonite" went on to sell over five million copies in the United States.

Later Career and Lineup Changes

The band's second album, "Turn It Upside Down," was released in 1994 and achieved platinum status, though it did not match the commercial success of their debut. Shortly after its release, guitarist Eric Schenkman left the band in September 1994, citing internal conflicts. He was replaced by Anthony Krizan. The band released "You've Got to Believe in Something" in 1996, but it failed to resonate with a wider audience.

The late 1990s brought more challenges, including the departure of bassist Mark White during the recording of 1999's "Here Comes the Bride." In 1999, lead singer Chris Barron suffered a rare paralysis of his vocal cords, leaving him unable to sing. Following his recovery, the original four members reunited in September 2001. Since then, the band has continued to tour and release new music, including the albums "Nice Talking to Me" (2005) and "If the River Was Whiskey" (2013).
