Biography

Snakehips is a British electronic music duo composed of Oliver Lee and James Carter. They are known for their genre-bending sound that fuses elements of R&B, hip hop, and dance music. The pair initially met in Hong Kong in 2012 while working on separate projects, bonding over shared musical tastes. They reconnected on a flight to London and decided to collaborate, which led to the formation of Snakehips.

Early Career and Breakthrough

Snakehips first gained recognition for their remixes of tracks by artists like Banks, The Weeknd, and Bondax on Hype Machine. They released their debut single, "Days with You," featuring Sinead Harnett, in August 2014. This was followed by their debut EP, Forever, Pt. II, in March 2015. Their major breakthrough came in October 2015 with the single "All My Friends," a collaboration with American singer Tinashe and rapper Chance the Rapper. The song was a commercial success, peaking at number 5 on the UK Singles Chart and achieving platinum status in several countries. It also won the Ivor Novello Award for Best Contemporary Song in 2016.

Following the success of "All My Friends," Snakehips continued to collaborate with a diverse range of popular artists. Some of their most well-known tracks include:

Recent Work and Debut Album

In 2021, Snakehips launched their own record label, Never Worry Records. The duo released their debut studio album, never worry, on May 5, 2023. The album features a host of guest appearances from artists such as Daya, EarthGang, BIA, and Lucky Daye. A deluxe version of the album was released later that year. They have continued to release new music, including the collaborative EP SNAKEGANG with EarthGang in 2024.
