Seether
Biography
Seether is a South African rock band that was founded in 1999 in Pretoria, Gauteng. The band was originally known as Saron Gas and gained a following in their home country. In 2002, they moved to the United States and changed their name to Seether to avoid confusion with the lethal sarin gas. The band's current lineup consists of Shaun Morgan (lead vocals, guitar), Dale Stewart (bass, backing vocals), John Humphrey (drums), and Corey Lowery (guitar, backing vocals). Shaun Morgan is the only constant member since the band's formation.
Musical Style and Breakthrough
Seether's music is primarily described as post-grunge, alternative metal, and hard rock. The band has been heavily influenced by grunge bands like Nirvana and Alice in Chains. Seether achieved mainstream success in 2002 with their hit single "Fine Again," which reached number one on the US Active Rock chart. Their popularity grew further with the 2004 single "Broken," featuring Amy Lee of Evanescence, which peaked at number 20 on the Billboard Hot 100.
