Biography
Sean Paul Ryan Francis Henriques, born in Kingston, Jamaica, on January 9, 1973, is a globally recognized dancehall and reggae artist. His diverse heritage includes Portuguese, Chinese, and Jamaican roots. Before his music career, Paul was a talented athlete, representing Jamaica's national water polo team from ages 13 to 21. His mother, Frances, is a well-known painter.
Early Career and Breakthrough
Sean Paul's musical journey began in the mid-1990s, with his debut single "Baby Girl" released in 1996. His debut album, "Stage One," was released in 2000 and achieved considerable success. However, it was his second album, "Dutty Rock" (2002), that propelled him to international fame. The album featured the chart-topping singles "Gimme the Light" and "Get Busy," with the latter becoming the first dancehall single to reach number one on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. "Dutty Rock" earned him a Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album in 2004.
