Biography
Anthony "Romeo" Santos, born on July 21, 1981, in The Bronx, New York, is a prominent American singer, songwriter, and record producer, widely known as the "King of Bachata". He was born to a Dominican father and a Puerto Rican mother and began his musical journey singing in a church choir at a young age. His parents' love for Latin music genres like salsa, merengue, and bachata greatly influenced him during his formative years.
Aventura and the Rise of Urban Bachata
In 1994, Romeo Santos, alongside his cousin Henry Santos and friends Lenny and Max Santos, formed a group called Los Tinellers, which would later become the world-renowned bachata group Aventura. Their 2002 hit "Obsesión" topped the charts in Italy for 16 consecutive weeks, catapulting the group to international fame. Aventura released several successful albums before the members decided to part ways in 2011 to pursue individual projects.
