Biography
Juan Carlos Ozuna Rosado, known professionally as Ozuna, is a Puerto Rican singer and actor born on March 13, 1992, in San Juan, Puerto Rico. His father is of Dominican descent and his mother is Puerto Rican. Ozuna's father, who worked as a dancer for reggaeton artist Vico C, was tragically killed when Ozuna was only three years old. Due to his mother's financial struggles, he was primarily raised by his paternal grandmother. Growing up, he was influenced by Latin genres like salsa and bachata, as well as reggaeton artists such as Daddy Yankee and Don Omar. He began writing songs at the age of 12.
Career Beginnings
Ozuna started his music career in 2012 with the song "Imaginando" under the name J Oz. In 2014, he signed with Golden Family Records and began uploading his songs to YouTube, which helped him gain a following. His 2015 single, "Si Tu Marido No Te Quiere," featuring Arcángel and Farruko in its remix, became a significant hit in Latin America. A major breakthrough came in 2016 with his feature on the track "La Ocasión," a collaboration with DJ Luian, Mambo Kingz, De La Ghetto, Arcángel, and Anuel AA, which charted on the Billboard Hot Latin Songs.
Rise to Fame
In 2017, Ozuna signed with Sony Music Latin and released his debut album, "Odisea". The album was a massive success, spending 46 weeks at the top of the Billboard Top Latin Albums chart. It featured hit singles like "Tu Foto" and collaborations such as "La Rompe Corazones" with Daddy Yankee and "Escápate Conmigo" with Wisin. His second album, "Aura" (2018), debuted at number seven on the US Billboard 200. He continued his success with albums "Nibiru" (2019), "ENOC" (2020), and a collaborative album with Anuel AA titled "Los Dioses" (2021). Ozuna has sold around 15 million records, making him one of the best-selling Latin music artists of all time.
Musical Style and Accolades
Ozuna's music is primarily defined as reggaeton and Latin trap, but he incorporates a wide range of genres including pop, R&B, and bachata. He is known for his romantic lyrics and catchy melodies. He has won numerous awards, including two Latin Grammy Awards, five Billboard Music Awards, and twelve Billboard Latin Music Awards. He also holds four Guinness World Records, including for the most videos to reach one billion views on YouTube by an artist. In 2019, Time magazine included him on their annual list of the 100 most influential people in the world.
Acting and Other Ventures
In addition to his music career, Ozuna has ventured into acting. He made his debut in the 2018 film "Que León" and has also appeared in "F9," the ninth installment of the Fast & Furious franchise.
