Biography

Daniel Echavarría Oviedo, known professionally as Ovy On The Drums, is a Colombian record producer, songwriter, and artist born in Medellín in 1991. He is a key figure in the modern Latin urban music scene, recognized for his influential work with numerous international stars. Before his success in music, Echavarría Oviedo was a former footballer. His passion for music began at a young age, influenced by a diverse range of genres including Bob Marley, Modern Talking, and salsa. As a teenager, he started experimenting with music production using FL Studio, a software he continues to use.

Career Breakthrough

Ovy On The Drums' career took off when he began working as a DJ for fellow Colombian artist Karol G. This collaboration evolved into a successful production partnership, with Ovy producing nearly every song on her debut album "Unstoppable" (2017). This album reached number two on Billboard's Top Latin Albums chart and established his name in the industry. In February 2018, he co-founded the record label Big Ligas with Argentine rapper Paulo Londra.

Throughout his career, Ovy On The Drums has produced a multitude of hit songs for prominent Latin artists. One of his most significant productions is the global smash "Tusa" (2019) by Karol G and Nicki Minaj. The track received two Latin Grammy nominations and became the first song by two female artists to debut at the top of the US Hot Latin Songs chart. Other major production credits include Paulo Londra's "Adán y Eva" (2018), which topped charts in several countries, and much of Karol G's discography, including her albums "Ocean" (2019) and the Grammy-winning "Mañana Será Bonito" (2023). He has also worked with artists like Anuel AA, Bad Bunny, Becky G, and Shakira.

Solo Career and Artistry

In addition to his extensive work as a producer, Ovy On The Drums has embarked on a career as a solo artist. Starting in 2020, he began releasing his own music, often featuring collaborations with other well-known artists. Some of his notable singles as a lead artist include "Inolvidable" with Beéle, "Sigo Buscandote" with Mau y Ricky, and "Miedito o Qué?" with Danny Ocean and Karol G. In 2024, he released his debut EP, "Cassette 01," in collaboration with Myke Towers, further solidifying his transition from producer to artist.

Ovy On The Drums continues to be a dominant force in Latin music. In 2023, he participated in Spotify's Radar program to support emerging artists. He earned a Latin Grammy for Album of the Year and a Grammy Award for Best Música Urbana Album for his production on Karol G's "Mañana Será Bonito". His song "Mírame" with Blessd reached the number one position on the Billboard Latin Rhythm Airplay chart in late 2024.
