Biography

Marco Antonio Muñiz, known professionally as Marc Anthony, is a global superstar, recognized as the best-selling tropical salsa artist of all time. A New Yorker of Puerto Rican descent, he was named after the Mexican ballad singer of the same name.

Career Beginnings

Marc Anthony's recording career started in the freestyle dance music genre. He achieved significant success between 1993 and 1997 with his first three salsa albums: "Otra Nota," "Todo a Su Tiempo," and "Contra La Corriente." These releases established him as the top-selling singer in the history of the genre, enabling him to sell out prestigious venues like Madison Square Garden.

Major Success and Accolades

In 1998, he won his first GRAMMY® Award for Best Latin Tropical Performance for "Contra La Corriente." This was followed by the first-ever Latin GRAMMY® for Song of the Year in 2000 with "Dímelo (I Need to Know)." His self-titled English-language debut album, "Marc Anthony," went triple-platinum in the United States and was a key part of the Latin pop explosion of 1999-2000. In 2005, he won two GRAMMY® Awards for Best Latin Pop Album ("Amar Sin Mentiras") and Best Salsa Album ("Valió la Pena"). His 2013 release, "Marc Anthony 3.0," featured the single "Vivir Mi Vida," which spent 18 consecutive weeks at #1 on the Billboard charts, becoming the longest-running #1 salsa single of all time.

Marc Anthony has sold over 12 million albums worldwide and holds the Guinness World Record for the most number-one albums on the Billboard Tropical Albums year-end charts. He is an ambassador for Latin music and culture on a global scale, with 26 Billboard chart hits. He was inducted into the Billboard Hall of Fame in 2012 and has received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute. He has also won 29 Premio Lo Nuestro Latin Music awards, more than any other male solo artist.
