Biography

Little Mix was a British girl group formed in 2011 on the eighth series of the UK's "The X Factor". The original lineup consisted of Jade Thirlwall, Perrie Edwards, Leigh-Anne Pinnock, and Jesy Nelson. They were the first and, to date, only group to win the competition. Following their victory, they signed with Simon Cowell's record label, Syco Music, and released a cover of Damien Rice's "Cannonball" as their winner's single.

Career Breakthrough

The group's debut album, "DNA," was released in 2012 and featured the number-one single "Wings". This album made Little Mix the first girl group since The Pussycat Dolls to reach the U.S. top five with their debut. Their subsequent albums include "Salute" (2013), "Get Weird" (2015), and "Glory Days" (2016), which included the chart-topping single "Shout Out to My Ex". Their fifth album, "LM5", was released in 2018.

Notable Success

Little Mix achieved significant commercial success, with five number-one singles and nineteen top-ten entries on the UK Singles Chart. Their 2015 single "Black Magic" spent multiple weeks at number one. In 2021, they became the first female group to win the Brit Award for 'Best British Group'. They also hold the record for the most weeks a girl group has spent inside the top ten of the UK Singles Chart, exceeding 100 weeks.

Lineup Change and Hiatus

In December 2020, Jesy Nelson announced her departure from the group, citing mental health reasons. The remaining members, Thirlwall, Pinnock, and Edwards, continued as a trio. They released their sixth album, "Confetti," in November 2020, which featured the hit "Sweet Melody". A greatest hits album, "Between Us," was released in 2021 to commemorate their tenth anniversary.

In December 2021, the group announced they would be taking a hiatus to pursue solo projects following their "Confetti Tour" in 2022. The tour concluded in May 2022, and the members have since embarked on individual careers.

Solo Careers

Following the hiatus, all three members have pursued solo music. Leigh-Anne Pinnock was the first to release a solo single, "Don't Say Love". Perrie Edwards and Jade Thirlwall have also released their own music, with Thirlwall earning Brit Award nominations for her solo work in 2025.
