Biography
Dwayne Michael Carter Jr., known professionally as Lil Wayne, was born on September 27, 1982, in New Orleans, Louisiana. He grew up in the Hollygrove neighborhood. Wayne began rapping at the age of 8. He was discovered by Cash Money Records co-founder Bryan "Birdman" Williams at age 11 and signed to the label.
Career Beginnings and Rise to Fame
In 1997, Lil Wayne joined the hip-hop group Hot Boys alongside Juvenile, B.G., and Turk. The group's album "Guerrilla Warfare" (1999) achieved mainstream success. Wayne launched his solo career with the album "Tha Block Is Hot" in 1999, which was certified platinum. His subsequent albums, "Lights Out" (2000) and "500 Degreez" (2002), were also commercially successful.
The Carter Series and Mixtape Dominance
Lil Wayne's fame skyrocketed with his "Tha Carter" album series. "Tha Carter" (2004) and "Tha Carter II" (2005) were critically and commercially successful. During this period, he also became known for his prolific output of mixtapes, such as "Da Drought" and "Dedication" series, which showcased his lyrical creativity. His 2008 album, "Tha Carter III," was a massive success, selling over a million copies in its first week and spawning the hit singles "A Milli" and "Lollipop". The album won the Grammy Award for Best Rap Album.

In 2005, Lil Wayne founded his own record label, Young Money Entertainment, an imprint of Cash Money Records. The label has launched the careers of successful artists like Drake and Nicki Minaj. Throughout the 2010s, Wayne continued to release successful albums, including "Tha Carter IV" (2011) and "I Am Not a Human Being II" (2013). After a period of label disputes, he released "Tha Carter V" in 2018. His more recent albums include "Funeral" (2020).

Throughout his career, Lil Wayne has won numerous awards. He has won five Grammy Awards, eleven BET Awards, four Billboard Music Awards, and two MTV Video Music Awards. In 2012, he surpassed Elvis Presley for the most entries on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Personal Life
Lil Wayne was married to Toya Johnson from 2004 to 2006, and they have a daughter named Reginae. He has three other children from different relationships. In 2010, he served an 8-month prison sentence in New York for criminal possession of a weapon.
