Durk Derrick Banks, known professionally as Lil Durk, was born on October 19, 1992, in the Englewood neighborhood on Chicago's South Side. Growing up with his father incarcerated since he was seven months old, Durk faced significant responsibility and hardship from a young age, including food scarcity. He developed an interest in rap and began building a following on social media platforms like Myspace and YouTube. At 17, he became a father, a life-altering event that motivated him to pursue a music career more seriously after dropping out of high school.

His 2020 album, "The Voice," and his 2021 collaborative album with Lil Baby, "The Voice of the Heroes," both achieved high chart positions, with the latter becoming his first number-one album on the Billboard 200. His 2022 album, "7220," also debuted at number one. In 2023, he released "Almost Healed," which featured the Grammy-winning single "All My Life" with J. Cole.
