LF SYSTEM
Biography
LF System is a Scottish production duo composed of Conor Larkman and Sean Finnigan. Hailing from West Lothian, the pair met and bonded over a shared love for music while DJing at club nights in Edinburgh. Their name, LF System, is a combination of the first letters of their surnames, Larkman and Finnigan.
Career Beginnings
Before their commercial success, Larkman and Finnigan were working regular jobs as a roofer and in a petrol station, respectively. They began creating music together, uploading disco edits and original tracks to SoundCloud in the late 2010s. In 2020, they officially started releasing their material. Their single "Dancing Cliché," released in 2021, was their debut for Warner Records.
Breakthrough with "Afraid to Feel"
LF System skyrocketed to fame in 2022 with their track "Afraid to Feel". The song, which samples the 1979 Silk track "I Can't Stop (Turning You On)," became a massive hit. It spent eight consecutive weeks at number one on the UK Singles Chart, making it the longest-running number one dance record of the decade. "Afraid to Feel" achieved multi-platinum status in the UK and received certifications in other European countries. The track's success was fueled by its popularity on platforms like TikTok and major radio play. The song was even named 'Dance Track Of The Year' at the BBC Radio 1 Dance Awards and was nominated for 'Song Of The Year' at the 2023 BRIT Awards.
Musical Style and Success
The duo is known for their exuberant house anthems that heavily draw from vintage disco and soul. Their production style often involves sampling and re-working older tracks, as seen with "Afraid to Feel" and "Dancing Cliché," which is based on a 1981 Luther Vandross-written song. Following their breakthrough, LF System has performed at major festivals such as Glastonbury, Reading, and Leeds, and have held residencies in Ibiza. They continue to release music, with tracks like "Hungry (For Love)" following their chart-topping success.
