LANY
Biography
LANY, an American pop rock band, was formed in Nashville in March 2014. The band currently consists of lead vocalist and guitarist Paul Jason Klein and drummer Jake Clifford Goss. The name LANY is an acronym for "Los Angeles New York," reflecting the band's ambition to create music that spans the entire United States. Their musical style is often described as dream pop, synth-pop, and indie pop, characterized by a dreamy atmosphere and strong bass sounds.
Formation and Early Years
Paul Jason Klein, who had a brief solo career, flew to Nashville to meet with his friends Jake Goss and Les Priest. Goss and Priest were previously in a project called WRLDS, which was discontinued after LANY's formation. In April 2014, they anonymously uploaded two songs, "Hot Lights" and "Walk Away," to SoundCloud. These tracks, recorded in just four days, quickly garnered attention from record labels. Their debut EP, "Acronyms," was released later that year, with the song "ILYSB" generating significant online interest.
Rise to Prominence
After signing with Polydor Records in 2015, LANY released the "Make Out" EP, which included tracks from their previous releases. The song "ILYSB" (an acronym for "I Love You So Bad") became a major hit, amassing over 14 million streams and contributing to their growing fanbase. The band gained further exposure by touring with artists like Troye Sivan, Ellie Goulding, and Halsey. Their self-titled debut studio album, "LANY," was released in 2017 and peaked at number four on the Billboard Top Rock Albums chart.
