Biography

Park Ji-min, known mononymously as Jimin, is a South Korean singer, songwriter, and dancer. He was born on October 13, 1995, in Busan, South Korea. From a young age, Jimin showed a strong interest in dance. In middle school, he attended Just Dance Academy where he learned popping and locking. He later studied contemporary dance at Busan High School of Arts, where he was a top student in the modern dance department. It was a teacher who suggested he audition for an entertainment company, which led him to Big Hit Entertainment (now HYBE Corporation).

Path to BTS

After passing the auditions in 2012, Jimin moved to Seoul and transferred to Korean Arts High School, from which he graduated in 2014. He was the last member to join the final lineup of BTS, with the shortest training period of six months. On June 13, 2013, Jimin debuted as a member of BTS with the single "No More Dream" from their debut single album "2 Cool 4 Skool". In the group, he holds the position of lead vocalist and main dancer.

Role in BTS and Artistry

Jimin is regarded as an exceptional dancer within BTS and the broader K-pop industry, often praised for his smooth and elegant movements. His vocals are described as delicate and sweet. He is known for his perfectionism and dedication to his craft. Within BTS, he has released several solo songs, including "Lie" (2016), "Serendipity" (2017), and "Filter" (2020), all of which charted on South Korea's Gaon Digital Chart.

Solo Career

2018-2022: Early Solo Activities

In 2018, Jimin released his first self-produced solo song, "Promise". He also recorded the duet "With You" with Ha Sung-woon for the soundtrack of the drama "Our Blues" in 2022.

2023: "Face"

Jimin released his debut solo album, "Face," on March 24, 2023. The album, which explores themes of loneliness and finding freedom, was co-written by Jimin. It was preceded by the single "Set Me Free Pt. 2" and features the title track "Like Crazy". "Face" debuted at number two on the US Billboard 200, making Jimin the highest-charting Korean solo artist in the chart's history at the time. The single "Like Crazy" debuted at number one on the US Billboard Hot 100, a first for a Korean solo artist.

2024: "Muse"

In 2024, Jimin released his second solo album, "Muse". The lead single, "Who," debuted at number one on the Billboard Global 200 chart.

Awards and Recognition

In 2018, alongside his fellow BTS members, Jimin was awarded the fifth-class Hwagwan Order of Cultural Merit by the President of South Korea for their contributions to the promotion of Korean culture. As a solo artist, he has won numerous awards, including the Hallyu Special Award at the 34th Seoul Music Awards and a 2025 BMI Pop Award for "Like Crazy". He was also included in the Forbes Korea Power Celebrity 40 list for 2024.

Military Service

Jimin began his mandatory military service on December 12, 2023. He completed his basic training in January 2024, finishing first in his unit and receiving a commendation for being an outstanding trainee.
