Biography

James Hype, born James Edward Lee Marsland on November 26, 1989, is an English DJ and record producer from Wirral, Merseyside. His interest in music began at age 13, leading to his first set of DJ decks for his 15th birthday. By 16, he had his first residency as a warm-up DJ and at 18, DJing became his full-time profession, performing in clubs across Merseyside and Northern England.

Career Breakthrough

Hype's career gained significant traction in 2016 when his remix of Drake's "Hotline Bling" went viral. This led to wider recognition, including attention from BBC Radio 1's Mistajam. In 2017, he signed with Warner and released "More Than Friends" with Kelli-Leigh, which became a UK Top 10 hit. This success launched his international career, with gigs in Ibiza and a weekly show on KISS FM.

Notable Releases

Following his initial success, James Hype continued to produce hit tracks. In 2018, he collaborated with Craig David on the single "No Drama". His 2022 single, "Ferrari," featuring Miggy Dela Rosa, became a massive international hit, reaching number one in the Netherlands, Italy, and Belgium. The song, which samples P. Diddy's "I Need a Girl (Part Two)," was released on March 15, 2022. Another popular release is "Disconnected," a collaboration with Tita Lau, which came out on December 10, 2021.

Musical Style and Influence

James Hype is known for his energetic tech-house tracks and skilful live mixing. He often DJs on four decks and is recognized for his technical abilities. He has remixed tracks for numerous prominent artists, including Ed Sheeran, Bruno Mars, and Meduza. Hype is also the founder of the Stereohype record label, which launched in 2020. He is an ambassador for the DJ equipment manufacturer Pioneer DJ.

Personal Life

James Hype is in a relationship with fellow DJ and producer Tita Lau. The couple got engaged in August 2023.
