Biography

Disclosure is an English electronic music duo consisting of brothers Howard (born May 11, 1994) and Guy Lawrence (born May 25, 1991). The siblings grew up in Reigate, Surrey, in a musical household, with their father being a professional musician. This environment led them to learn multiple instruments and study music, eventually leading them to explore and create electronic music. Their sound is a distinctive blend of house, UK garage, dubstep, and pop.

Career Beginnings and Breakthrough

The duo began creating music in 2010, uploading their early tracks to MySpace, which quickly garnered attention and led to a record deal. Their debut single, "Offline Dexterity," was released in 2010. However, it was their 2012 single "Latch," featuring a then-unknown Sam Smith, that brought them significant commercial success and international recognition. The track showcased their ability to blend garage rhythms with soulful pop vocals.

Settle (2013)

Disclosure's debut studio album, "Settle," was released on June 3, 2013. The album was a critical and commercial success, debuting at number one on the UK Albums Chart. It featured collaborations with a range of artists including AlunaGeorge on the hit single "White Noise," Eliza Doolittle on "You & Me," and London Grammar. "Settle" was praised for its polished production and its fusion of dance genres with pop structures. The album earned a nomination for Best Dance/Electronica Album at the 2014 Grammy Awards.

Caracal (2015)

Their second studio album, "Caracal," was released on September 25, 2015. This album saw the duo collaborate with an even wider array of prominent artists, including The Weeknd, Lorde, Miguel, and a return collaboration with Sam Smith on the single "Omen". Like its predecessor, "Caracal" was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Dance/Electronic Album at the 2016 ceremony. The album continued to build on their signature sound while exploring a more song-oriented approach.

Later Career and Musical Evolution

After a brief hiatus, Disclosure returned with their third studio album, "Energy," released on August 28, 2020. The album featured a diverse lineup of guests, including rappers for the first time, such as Aminé and Slowthai on the track "My High". "Energy" also received a Grammy nomination for Best Dance/Electronic Album, with "My High" being nominated for Best Dance Recording. Their fourth album, "Alchemy," was released in 2023 and featured no guest appearances, marking a shift towards a more club-focused sound.
