Biography
Dan + Shay is an American country pop music duo composed of vocalists and songwriters Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney. Smyers was born on August 16, 1987, in Wexford, Pennsylvania, and Mooney was born on December 27, 1991, in Natural Dam, Arkansas. The two met in Nashville, Tennessee, in December 2012 and began writing music together the day after they met. Within a couple of months, they signed a record deal with Warner Records Nashville.
Career Breakthrough
The duo's debut single, "19 You + Me," was released in October 2013 and became a Top 10 hit on the country charts. Their debut album, "Where It All Began," was released on April 1, 2014. They have since released several more albums, including "Obsessed," "Dan + Shay," "Good Things," and "Bigger Houses." Dan + Shay have achieved multiple number-one singles on the Country Airplay chart.
Notable Singles
Some of their most popular and commercially successful songs include "Tequila," "Speechless," "All to Myself," and "10,000 Hours," a collaboration with Justin Bieber. "Tequila" and "Speechless" both reached number one on the Country Airplay chart. The collaboration with Justin Bieber, "10,000 Hours," debuted at number four on the Billboard Hot 100. The duo has also collaborated with artists such as Kelly Clarkson, Rascal Flatts, and Lindsey Stirling.

Dan + Shay have won numerous awards throughout their career. From 2019 to 2021, they won three consecutive Grammy Awards for Best Country Duo/Group Performance for their songs "Tequila," "Speechless," and "10,000 Hours." They have also won awards at the Academy of Country Music Awards, CMT Music Awards, and American Music Awards.
Recent Years
In 2023, the duo released their album "Bigger Houses," with the title track becoming a Grammy-nominated No. 1 hit. They also released their first holiday album, "It's Officially Christmas: The Double Album," in 2024. In addition to their music, Dan + Shay served as the first-ever coaching duo on the 25th season of the reality television show "The Voice."
