Biography

Cyril Riley, known professionally as CYRIL, is an Australian DJ, record producer, and multi-instrumentalist born in 1997. He grew up in New South Wales and has First Nations heritage. His early life involved significant personal struggles, including periods of homelessness and addiction. Despite these challenges, he taught himself to play guitar, piano, and drums, and began producing music in his late teens. After a difficult period, he returned to his hometown, worked on a farm, and eventually studied music at Charles Darwin University, initially with the goal of becoming a teacher before committing to a career as a performer and producer.

Career Breakthrough

CYRIL began uploading remixes in 2021, but his major breakthrough came in late 2023 with his deep house remix of "Stumblin' In," a 1978 classic by Chris Norman and Suzi Quatro. The track went viral on TikTok, leading to international chart success and reaching the number one spot in several countries. Following this, his remix of Disturbed's cover of "The Sound of Silence" also achieved significant global recognition, topping Spotify's Australian Music Global Impact List in 2024. These successes led to a record deal with Spinnin' Records and Warner Chappell Music Benelux.

Musical Style and Notable Works

CYRIL's music is characterized by its deep house style, often blending electronic beats with pop and rock elements. He is known for remixing classic songs, including Rupert Holmes' "Escape (The Piña Colada Song)" and Mario's "Let Me Love You". He has also collaborated with several artists, releasing his first original track, "Tears Dry Tonight," with James Blunt in April 2025. Other collaborations include tracks with Dean Lewis, Teddy Swims, and Robin Schulz. His work has earned him nominations for ARIA Awards and at the Australian TikTok Awards.

Recent Success

Throughout 2024, CYRIL dominated music charts and streaming platforms. He had three tracks in the top 30 of Spotify's Australian Music Global Impact List. His remix of "The Sound of Silence" and "Stumblin' In" were also among the most Shazamed songs of the year. Now based in Darwin, he continues to produce music and has completed a headline tour in North America.
