Carrie Marie Underwood is a multi-platinum selling American singer, songwriter, and actress who rose to fame as the winner of the fourth season of American Idol in 2005. She was born on March 10, 1983, in Muskogee, Oklahoma, and grew up on her family's farm in Checotah. From a young age, she showcased her vocal talents by singing in church and at local events. Before her breakthrough on American Idol, she attended Northeastern State University, where she studied broadcast journalism and graduated with a degree in mass communications.
