Biography

Camila is a Mexican pop rock group that officially formed in 2005, founded by composer, singer, and producer Mario Domm. The original trio included Domm, guitarist Pablo Hurtado, and vocalist Samuel "Samo" Parra. The name "Camila" was suggested by a friend and means "close to God". Before forming the band, Mario Domm already had an established career, writing hits for artists like Alejandra Guzmán and Reyli. It was during a session with Reyli that he met Samo and Hurtado.

Career Breakthrough

The band's debut album, Todo Cambió, was released in 2006 and brought them widespread success across Latin America. The album featured hit singles such as "Abrázame," "Coleccionista de Canciones," and the title track "Todo Cambió". Their first single, "Abrázame," quickly became a major airplay success. The album was certified platinum in Mexico and topped the Billboard Top Latin Albums chart in the US. This initial success led to several award nominations, including a Best New Artist nod at the Premios Lo Nuestro in 2007.

Their second album, Dejarte de Amar, released in 2010, continued their success. The single "Mientes" won them three Latin Grammy Awards for Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Pop Album by a Group or Duo. Throughout their career, they have sold over two million albums worldwide and have collaborated with artists such as Kenny G, Colbie Caillat, and Alejandro Sanz.

Lineup Changes and Later Years

In 2013, vocalist Samo Parra left the group to pursue a solo career, and Camila continued as a duo with Mario Domm and Pablo Hurtado. Their first album as a duo, Elypse, was released in 2014 and earned a Grammy Award nomination for Best Latin Pop Album. This was followed by their fourth studio album, Hacia Adentro, in 2019.

Reunion and Current Status

In 2023, Samo rejoined the band, and they released the single "Fugitivos," marking their first material as a trio in over a decade. The reunited band announced a tour in 2025, their first together in more than ten years. Their latest album, titled Regresa, was released in 2024.
