Biography

BROCKHAMPTON was an American hip-hop collective and self-described "boy band" formed in San Marcos, Texas, in 2014. The group was founded by Kevin Abstract and was formed in part through the online forum "KanyeToThe". The final lineup included vocalists Kevin Abstract, Matt Champion, Merlyn Wood, and Dom McLennon; vocalists/producers Joba, Bearface, and Jabari Manwa; and producers Romil Hemnani and Kiko Merley. The creative team also featured graphic designer Henock "HK" Sileshi, photographer Ashlan Grey, and web designer Roberto Ontenient.

Musical Career

In 2016, BROCKHAMPTON independently released their debut mixtape, "All-American Trash". The following year, the group gained significant critical and commercial acclaim with their "Saturation" trilogy—three studio albums released in quick succession over six months. The albums, "Saturation," "Saturation II," and "Saturation III," showcased their eclectic style, which blended elements of hip-hop, R&B, and pop.

In 2018, the group signed a record deal with RCA Records. Shortly after, founding member Ameer Vann was removed from the group following accusations of sexual misconduct. This led to the cancellation of their planned album "Puppy". Their major-label debut, "Iridescence," was released in September 2018 and debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart. This was followed by "Ginger" in 2019, which featured the multi-platinum single "Sugar", and "Roadrunner: New Light, New Machine" in 2021.

The Saturation Trilogy

The "Saturation" trilogy, all released in 2017, is considered a significant part of BROCKHAMPTON's discography. "Saturation" was released in June, followed by "Saturation II" in August, which debuted on the Billboard 200. The final installment, "Saturation III," was released in December and reached number 15 on the Billboard 200. The trilogy was praised for its creative energy, diverse sounds, and the chemistry between the members.

Disbandment

In January 2022, BROCKHAMPTON announced that they would be going on an "indefinite hiatus" following their upcoming performances. Their final shows took place at The O2 in London and at Coachella that same year. The group released their final two albums, "The Family" and "TM," in November 2022 before officially disbanding. Following the disbandment, several members have pursued solo careers.
