Biography
Beatrice Kristi Ilejay Laus, known professionally as beabadoobee, is a Filipino-British singer-songwriter born on June 3, 2000, in Iloilo City, Philippines. At the age of three, she moved with her parents to London, England, where she was raised. Growing up in West London, her musical background was a mix of original Pinoy music and 1990s rock and pop. She began playing the guitar at 17, after her father bought her one, and she started writing songs almost immediately.
Career Beginnings
Beabadoobee's music career began in 2017 with the release of her first song, "Coffee," which she wrote on the guitar her father gave her. The song quickly gained hundreds of thousands of views online after a fan uploaded it, catching the attention of the independent label Dirty Hit, to which she signed in 2018. The name "beabadoobee" originated from her finsta account. Between 2018 and 2019, she released a series of EPs: Lice (2018), Patched Up (2018), Loveworm (2019), and Space Cadet (2019).
Rise to Prominence
A sample of her song "Coffee" in Powfu's 2020 single "death bed (coffee for your head)" became a viral sensation on TikTok, catapulting her to international recognition. This success led to her being nominated for the Rising Star Award at the 2020 BRIT Awards and winning the Radar Award at the 2020 NME Awards. She was also included in the BBC's Sound of 2020 poll.
Studio Albums
Beabadoobee has released three studio albums. Her debut album, Fake It Flowers, was released in October 2020 to critical acclaim and debuted in the top 10 of the UK charts. This was followed by her second album, Beatopia, released in July 2022, which featured the hit single "The Perfect Pair". Her third album, This Is How Tomorrow Moves, was released in August 2024 and became her first to top the UK Albums Chart.
