Bad Meets Evil
Biography
Bad Meets Evil is an American hip-hop duo from Detroit, Michigan, consisting of rappers Royce da 5'9" ("Bad") and Eminem ("Evil"). The two met in 1997 at a concert and became friends. The group's name was born from a song of the same name on Eminem's major-label debut album, The Slim Shady LP (1999), which featured Royce da 5'9". The duo's first release was a double-single in 1998, "Nuttin' to Do" and "Scary Movies". The latter was featured in the 2000 horror-comedy parody film Scary Movie.
Hiatus and Reunion
Shortly after their initial collaboration, the duo disbanded following a feud between Royce and members of Eminem's group, D12. The conflict ended after the death of rapper Proof, a D12 member and mutual friend of both Eminem and Royce, in 2006. The official reunion of Bad Meets Evil came after Royce's supergroup Slaughterhouse signed to Eminem's Shady Records in 2011. This led to the release of their debut extended play (EP), Hell: The Sequel.
Hell: The Sequel
Released on June 14, 2011, Hell: The Sequel was a commercial success, debuting at number one on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart. The EP was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). It produced two hit singles. The lead single, "Fast Lane," peaked at number 32 on the Billboard Hot 100. The second single, "Lighters," featuring Bruno Mars, was even more successful, reaching number four on the same chart.
Collaborations and Later Work
Following the success of their EP, Bad Meets Evil has continued to collaborate on various projects. They appeared on the 2014 Shady Records anniversary album, Shady XV, with the track "Vegas". In 2015, they contributed two songs, "All I Think About" and "Raw," to the soundtrack of the film Southpaw. The duo also reunited on "Not Alike" from Eminem's 2018 album Kamikaze, and Eminem was featured on Royce's track "Caterpillar" from his album Book of Ryan that same year.
