Audioslave
Biography
Audioslave was an American rock supergroup formed in Glendale, California, in 2001. The band consisted of former Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell on vocals and rhythm guitar, and former Rage Against the Machine members Tom Morello on lead guitar, Tim Commerford on bass and backing vocals, and Brad Wilk on drums. The formation came after Zack de la Rocha left Rage Against the Machine, and producer Rick Rubin suggested they collaborate with Cornell.
Musical Style
Audioslave's sound was a fusion of 1970s hard rock and 1990s alternative rock, with influences from funk, soul, and R&B. They were known for blending hard rock riffs with alternative rock, characterized by Cornell's wide vocal range and Morello's innovative guitar solos. The band made a point that all sounds on their albums were created using only guitars, bass, drums, and vocals. Initially described as a combination of Soundgarden and Rage Against the Machine, they developed their own distinct identity by their second album.

Breakup and Aftermath
In February 2007, Chris Cornell announced his departure from the band, citing "irresolvable personality conflicts as well as musical differences." This led to the official disbandment of Audioslave. The other members reunited with Zack de la Rocha for a Rage Against the Machine tour, while Cornell pursued his solo career. Audioslave briefly reunited for a performance in January 2017. However, any possibility of a full reunion was ended by Chris Cornell's death by suicide on May 18, 2017.
