A Day To Remember
Biography
A Day to Remember is an American rock band from Ocala, Florida, formed in 2003 by guitarist Tom Denney and drummer Bobby Scruggs. They are known for their unique blend of metalcore and pop-punk. The band's current lineup consists of vocalist Jeremy McKinnon, rhythm guitarist Neil Westfall, drummer Alex Shelnutt, and lead guitarist Kevin Skaff.
History
After playing in various bands in the Ocala music scene, the founding members came together in 2003. The band self-released an EP in 2004 and signed with Indianola Records for their debut album, And Their Name Was Treason, in 2005. In 2006, Alex Shelnutt replaced Bobby Scruggs on drums, and the band signed with Victory Records.
Rise to Prominence
Their second album, For Those Who Have Heart, was released in 2007, followed by a re-release in 2008. The band's third album, Homesick (2009), was a significant success, reaching number 21 on the Billboard 200 chart. During the Homesick tour, lead guitarist Tom Denney was replaced by Kevin Skaff. Their next album, What Separates Me from You (2010), continued their commercial success, debuting at number 11 on the Billboard 200. The lead single, "All I Want," became a notable hit.
Recent Years
Following a legal dispute with Victory Records, the band self-released their fifth album, Common Courtesy, in 2013. They later signed with Epitaph Records for their sixth album, Bad Vibrations (2016), which debuted at number 2 on the Billboard 200. In 2021, the band released their seventh album, You're Welcome, under their new label, Fueled by Ramen. Their latest single, "Feedback," was released in 2024.
Musical Style
A Day to Remember's sound is often described as a fusion of metalcore's heavy breakdowns and harsh vocals with the melodic and catchy choruses of pop-punk. This combination has been referred to as "pop-mosh" and "easycore." The band draws influences from a wide range of genres, including emo and hardcore.
