Wallows
Biography
Wallows is an American alternative rock band from Los Angeles, composed of Dylan Minnette, Braeden Lemasters, and Cole Preston. The three friends formed the band in 2011, initially under the name The Feaver, and later as The Narwhals, before settling on Wallows in 2017. Their sound is often described as a blend of indie rock, post-punk, and bedroom pop, with influences from bands like The Strokes and Arctic Monkeys.
Early Years and Breakthrough
The members met through a music program in Southern California called "Join the Band". As The Feaver, they played the 2011 Warped Tour. In April 2017, they released their first single as Wallows, "Pleaser," which quickly gained traction, reaching number two on the Spotify Global Viral 50 chart. This success led to sold-out shows in Los Angeles at venues like The Roxy and the Troubadour. After a series of independent singles, the band signed with Atlantic Records in February 2018.
Major Label Debut
Their major-label debut EP, "Spring," was released in April 2018, produced by John Congleton. The EP included the single "Pictures of Girls". This was followed by their debut full-length album, "Nothing Happens," released in March 2019. The album featured their most successful single to date, "Are You Bored Yet?" featuring Clairo, which was certified double platinum. "Nothing Happens" peaked at number 75 on the US Billboard 200.
Subsequent Releases and Musical Evolution
In 2020, Wallows released the EP "Remote," created during the COVID-19 pandemic. Their second studio album, "Tell Me That It's Over," was released in March 2022 and saw the band experimenting with a broader range of sounds, incorporating elements of lo-fi and dance-pop. It reached number 49 on the Billboard 200. The band's third album, "Model," was released in May 2024, preceded by singles like "Your Apartment" and "Calling After Me". "Model" became their highest-charting album, debuting at number 28 on the Billboard 200.
