Biography
Chinsea Linda Lee, known professionally as Shenseea, was born on October 1, 1996, in Mandeville, Jamaica. Of Jamaican and Korean descent, she was raised primarily by her Jamaican mother. Shenseea attended Mona High School and later studied Entertainment Management at Excelsior Community College before financial difficulties led her to leave her studies. Her early life was marked by a passion for music, with initial aspirations of becoming a pop singer, drawing inspiration from artists like Whitney Houston.
Career Beginnings
Shenseea's career began with promotional work for various brands. She gained significant recognition in the music industry after remixing Vybz Kartel's song "Loodi" in 2016. This collaboration became a massive hit and marked her breakthrough. In 2015, she performed on a side stage at Reggae Sumfest and by 2017 had graduated to the main stage, a testament to her growing popularity. Her early success was acknowledged with the "Young Hot and Hype Artiste" award at the Youth View Awards in 2016.
Rise to International Stardom
Shenseea's career quickly gained international momentum. She signed with Interscope Records in 2019 and released the track "Blessed" featuring Tyga, which garnered millions of views online. She has collaborated with a host of international artists, including Christina Aguilera on the song "Right Moves" (2018), Sean Paul on "Rolling" (2017), and Major Lazer. A significant milestone in her career came in 2021 when she was featured on Kanye West's album "Donda" on the songs "Pure Souls" and "Ok Ok pt 2". This collaboration earned her an Album of the Year nomination at the 64th Grammy Awards. She also won Best Reggae Act at the MOBO Awards in 2021.
