Biography

Reik is a Mexican pop rock band from Mexicali, Baja California, formed in 2003. The group consists of Jesús Alberto Navarro Rosas as the lead vocalist, Julio Ramírez Eguía on guitar and background vocals, and Gilberto "Bibi" Marín Espinoza on guitar. Initially, the band was started by Jesús Navarro and Julio Ramírez, who released their first demos, "Levemente" and "Ahora Sin Ti," which gained popularity in the Mexican underground club scene. In early 2004, Gilberto Marín joined the band, completing the trio.

Musical Career

Reik's self-titled debut album was released in 2005, which included the hit singles "Yo Quisiera" and "Qué Vida La Mía". This album was a commercial success, earning them a gold certification in Mexico just a few months after its release and later achieving platinum status. Their early sound was classified as Latin pop, characterized by romantic ballads. The band's second album, "Secuencia," was released in 2006, featuring the popular single "Invierno".

In 2008, they released their third studio album, "Un Día Más," which earned them a Latin Grammy Award for Best Pop Album by a Duo or Group with Vocals in 2009. Their subsequent albums, "Peligro" (2011) and "Des/Amor" (2016), saw the band incorporating more electronic sounds into their music. A significant shift in their musical style came in 2015 when they began to transition to a more urban-influenced sound. This evolution was marked by collaborations with reggaeton artists, including the remix of "Ya Me Enteré" with Nicky Jam in 2016.

Recent Years and Collaborations

In recent years, Reik has solidified their presence in the urban music scene with several successful collaborations. Their 2018 single "Me Niego," featuring Ozuna and Wisin, became a major hit, winning Latin Pop Song of the Year at the 2019 Billboard Latin Music Awards.
