Music Career

2021: The "SOUR" Phenomenon

In 2020, Olivia Rodrigo signed with Geffen Records. She released her debut single, "drivers license," in January 2021, which she co-wrote with producer Dan Nigro. The song was a global phenomenon, breaking Spotify records for the most daily streams for a non-holiday song and debuting at number one on the Billboard Hot 100. Her debut studio album, "SOUR," was released in May 2021. The album, a mix of pop, alternative pop, and pop-rock, explores themes of adolescence and heartbreak. It produced two more hit singles, "deja vu" and the number-one hit "good 4 u". "SOUR" was a massive commercial success, breaking the Spotify record for the biggest opening week for an album by a female artist and topping charts worldwide. At the 64th Annual Grammy Awards, Rodrigo won three awards: Best New Artist, Best Pop Vocal Album for "SOUR," and Best Pop Solo Performance for "drivers license".

2023: "GUTS" and Continued Success

Rodrigo released her second album, "GUTS," on September 8, 2023. She described the album as being about "growing pains" and the process of self-discovery during her late teenage years. The lead single, "vampire," debuted at number one on the Billboard Hot 100, making her the youngest artist to have three number-one debut singles on the chart. The album also features the singles "bad idea right?" and "get him back!". A deluxe version, "Guts (Spilled)," was released in March 2024. To support the album, she embarked on the Guts World Tour, her first arena tour, in 2024.
