Biography
Jason Joel Desrouleaux, known professionally as Jason Derulo, is an American singer, songwriter, and dancer born on September 21, 1989, in Miramar, Florida, to Haitian parents. He developed an interest in music at a young age, writing his first song at eight years old. His songwriting skills gained attention during his teenage years, leading him to write tracks for artists like Lil Wayne, Pitbull, and Diddy before launching his solo career.
Career Breakthrough
Derulo was discovered by music producer J.R. Rotem, who signed him to his record label, Beluga Heights Records, which later became part of Warner Music Group. His debut single, "Whatcha Say," released in May 2009, became a massive success, reaching number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and selling over five million digital downloads in the US. This was followed by his self-titled debut album in 2010, which included other hit singles like "In My Head" and "Ridin' Solo".
Continued Success
Throughout his career, Derulo has released a string of successful albums and singles. His second album, Future History (2011), featured the UK number-one single "Don't Wanna Go Home". His third album, Tattoos (2013), was repackaged in the US as Talk Dirty (2014) and included the worldwide hits "Talk Dirty", "Wiggle", and "Trumpets". The album Everything Is 4 (2015) was preceded by the hit single "Want to Want Me," which became his sixth US top-ten hit. In 2020, his single "Savage Love (Laxed – Siren Beat)" with Jawsh 685, and later remixed with BTS, topped charts globally and became his second number-one hit in the US. His fifth studio album, Nu King, was released in 2024.
