Biography

Her's was an indie rock duo from Liverpool, England, composed of Stephen Fitzpatrick from Barrow-in-Furness, England, on vocals and guitar, and Audun Laading from Flekkerøy, Norway, on bass and backing vocals. The two met at the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts, where they both graduated in 2016. Initially formed in jest in 2015, the band started by creating comedic music videos and posting them online.

Musical Style

The band's sound is often described as dream pop and jangle pop. Their music was characterized by the use of a drum machine, programmed by both members, which complemented Fitzpatrick's guitar and Laading's bass. Their style has been compared to artists like Mac DeMarco and The Smiths.

Career and Discography

Her's released their debut single, "Dorothy," on April 7, 2016. This was followed by a nine-track compilation album titled "Songs of Her's" on May 12, 2017, which collected all of their recorded material up to that point. Their first full-length studio album, "Invitation to Her's," was released on August 24, 2018. The band gained recognition and was featured on Paste's list of "The 15 New Liverpool Bands You Need to Know in 2018."

Tragic End

On March 27, 2019, while on their second North American tour, Stephen Fitzpatrick (age 24), Audun Laading (age 25), and their tour manager, Trevor Engelbrektson, were killed in a head-on traffic collision in Arizona. The band was traveling from a show in Phoenix, Arizona, to another in Santa Ana, California. Their deaths were met with an outpouring of grief from the music community.

Legacy

Despite their short career, Her's developed a strong following and left a lasting impact on the indie music scene. In their memory, the Friends of Her's memorial fund was established to help the homeless in Liverpool.
