Biography

Zoé is a Grammy and Latin Grammy Award-winning Mexican rock band that formed in Cuernavaca, Mexico in 1994, with its lineup stabilizing in 1997. The band is known for its psychedelic and alternative rock style. The current members are León Larregui on vocals, Sergio Acosta on lead guitar, Jesus Baez on keyboards, Angel Mosqueda on bass, and Rodrigo Guardiola on drums.

Career Beginnings

After forming, Zoé independently released a demo that caught the attention of Sony Music. Their self-titled debut album was released in 2001. Songs from this album were featured in the movies "Amar Te Duele," "Ladies Night," and "The Dreamer." In 2003, they released their second album, "Rocanlover," produced by Phil Vinall, who had worked with bands like Placebo and Elastica.

Rise to Prominence

The band left Sony Music in 2004 and in 2005 released an EP called "The Room" which was very successful in Mexico. Their 2006 album, "Memo Rex Commander y el Corazón Atómico de la Vía Láctea," reached platinum status and earned them several award nominations. This was followed by "Reptilectric" in 2008, which debuted at number one on the Mexican charts and was also certified platinum.

Música de Fondo/MTV Unplugged

In 2011, Zoé released "MTV Unplugged/Música de Fondo," an album featuring new arrangements of their greatest hits with guest performers like Enrique Bunbury and Adrián Dárgelos. This album was highly successful, earning them multiple Latin Grammy nominations and going gold in Colombia. It included popular singles such as "Labios Rotos" and "Soñé."

Later Years and Acclaim

Their fifth studio album, "Prográmaton," was released in 2013, followed by an extensive international tour. In 2018, the band released "Aztlán," which won a Grammy Award for Best Latin Rock, Urban or Alternative Album. Their most recent studio album, "Sonidos de Karmática Resonancia," was released in 2021.
