Max Aloysius Zhang, known professionally as yung kai, is a Chinese-Canadian singer, songwriter, and musician. He was born in Canada on August 9, 2000, spent his childhood in Shanghai, China, and later returned to Vancouver, Canada, for university. From a young age, he learned to play the drums, piano, and guitar.
Career
Yung kai began his musical journey by posting covers on TikTok in 2023. He gained significant mainstream attention in 2024 when his single "Blue" went viral on social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram. This self-written and self-produced ballad peaked at number 19 on the Billboard Global 200 and reached the top of the charts in Indonesia. The success of "Blue" led to him being managed by the Wasserman talent agency. He creates his music, which is described as bedroom pop and indie pop, in his bedroom studio. His music is often inspired by K-dramas and C-dramas.
