Biography
Mateo Palacios Corazzina, known professionally as Trueno, is an Argentine rapper, singer, and songwriter born on March 25, 2002, in the La Boca neighborhood of Buenos Aires. He was immersed in hip-hop culture from a young age, heavily influenced by his father, Pedro "Peligro" Palacios, a Uruguayan-born rapper and a pioneer in the Argentine hip-hop scene. His grandfather on his father's side was the Uruguayan singer-songwriter and guitarist Yamandú Palacios. Trueno's early exposure to music and freestyle led him to begin competing in rap battles as a teenager.
Rise to Fame
Trueno gained significant recognition in the world of freestyle rap battles. A pivotal moment in his career came in 2019 when he was crowned the champion of the Red Bull Batalla de los Gallos in Argentina. That same year, he also won the FMS Argentina championship, solidifying his status as a top freestyler. His collaboration with producer Bizarrap on "BZRP Freestyle Sessions #6" went viral, becoming the most-viewed freestyle video on YouTube and catapulting him to international fame.
Music Career
In 2020, Trueno transitioned from the battle scene to a recording artist with the release of his debut album, "Atrevido". The album featured the hit single "Mamichula," a collaboration with Nicki Nicole and Bizarrap, which topped the Billboard Argentina Hot 100. This album was certified four-times platinum. His second album, "Bien o Mal," was released in 2022 and explored themes of social justice and Latin American identity, earning him a Gardel de Oro award, one of Argentina's highest musical honors. The track "Dance Crip" from this album earned him his first Latin Grammy nomination for "Best Rap/Hip-Hop Song". In 2024, he released his third studio album, "El Último Baile," a tribute to the 50 years of hip-hop culture.
