Tommy Karevik

Biography

Tommy Karevik, born on November 1, 1981, in Stockholm, Sweden, is a highly acclaimed vocalist in the genres of progressive, symphonic, and power metal. From a young age, Karevik showed a proclivity for singing and was a member of his school's choir. Before his music career took off, he pursued studies in nature and science and also worked as a firefighter.

Seventh Wonder

Karevik's journey in the metal scene began to take shape in 2004 with the band Vindictiv. However, in 2005, he joined the progressive metal band Seventh Wonder, replacing the previous vocalist. His addition to the band marked a significant turning point. His first album with them was "Waiting in the Wings" (2006), which was met with critical acclaim. He went on to record several more successful albums with the band, including the concept album "Mercy Falls" (2008), "The Great Escape" (2010), "Tiara" (2018), and "The Testament" (2022). In June 2023, Karevik announced his departure from Seventh Wonder to focus on other projects.

Kamelot

In 2011, Karevik's talent caught the attention of the American symphonic power metal band Kamelot, for which he initially performed as a guest vocalist. Following the departure of their longtime singer Roy Khan, it was officially announced on June 22, 2012, that Karevik would be their new permanent lead vocalist. His first studio album with Kamelot was "Silverthorn" (2012). He has since been an integral part of the band, contributing to subsequent albums like "Haven" (2015), "The Shadow Theory" (2018), and "The Awakening" (2023).

Ayreon and Other Projects

Beyond his work with Seventh Wonder and Kamelot, Tommy Karevik has been a prominent guest vocalist for Ayreon, the progressive rock opera project by Arjen Anthony Lucassen. He played the lead role in the 2013 album "The Theory of Everything". He continued his collaboration with Ayreon, appearing on "The Source" (2017) as 'The Opposition Leader' and on "Transitus" (2020) as the character Daniel. He has also lent his voice to other projects and bands, including Avantasia and a guest appearance on an album by Tarja Turunen.

Personal Life

Tommy Karevik's sister, Jenny, has also appeared as a vocalist on some of Seventh Wonder's songs. He is married to Kobra Paige, the singer of the band Kobra and the Lotus.
