Biography

THE SCOTTS is an American hip-hop super-duo composed of rappers Travis Scott and Kid Cudi. The formation of the group was officially announced in April 2020 with the release of their debut single of the same name, "The Scotts". The name of the duo is a direct reference to the shared name of the two artists; Travis Scott's stage surname and Kid Cudi's real first name, Scott Mescudi.

Formation and History

The collaboration between Travis Scott and Kid Cudi dates back several years before they formed the duo. Kid Cudi was a major musical influence on Travis Scott. Their first musical collaborations were in 2016, with Cudi featuring on Scott's song "Through the Late Night" and Scott appearing on Cudi's track "Baptized in Fire". They also worked together on Scott's 2018 song "Stop Trying to Be God".

Debut Single

The duo's debut single, "The Scotts," was released on April 24, 2020. The song was premiered during Travis Scott's virtual "Astronomical" concert event within the popular online video game Fortnite. The track was produced by Daytrip, Dot da Genius, and Plain Pat, with co-production credits for Travis Scott and Mike Dean. "The Scotts" debuted at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, becoming Travis Scott's third number-one single and Kid Cudi's first.

Musical Style

THE SCOTTS' music is characterized as hip-hop, trap, and contemporary rap. Their sound often incorporates the moody, auto-tuned, and dark psychedelic elements that both artists are known for in their solo work.

Future

Following the success of their debut single, there was speculation and confirmation from Kid Cudi about a full-length album from THE SCOTTS. However, in December 2022, Cudi stated that the collaborative album was no longer in the works, suggesting the "moment has passed". Despite this, the possibility of future collaborations remains, as a previously unheard track from the duo was debuted during one of Travis Scott's live performances.
