The 1975 are an English pop rock band that formed in Wilmslow, Cheshire, in 2002. The group consists of Matty Healy (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Adam Hann (lead guitar), Ross MacDonald (bass), and George Daniel (drums). The band members met and began playing music together as teenagers while attending Wilmslow High School. After performing under various names, they settled on "The 1975," a name inspired by scribblings found in a copy of Jack Kerouac's "On the Road" that were dated "1 June, The 1975".
