Biography
Jaten Collin Dimsdale, known professionally as Teddy Swims, is an American singer and songwriter born on September 25, 1992, in Conyers, Georgia. His stage name is an acronym for "Someone Who Isn't Me Sometimes". Growing up, his father introduced him to soul music from artists like Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, and Al Green. He discovered a passion for performance in high school through musical theater and by watching YouTube videos of singers to develop his vocal technique.
Early Career and Rise to Fame
Before his solo career, Swims was a member of several bands in the Atlanta area, spanning genres like alternative rock, post-hardcore, and soul. In 2019, he began his journey to stardom by posting cover songs on YouTube. A cover of Michael Jackson's "Rock With You" on the 10th anniversary of the singer's death was one of his first viral videos. His powerful and soulful renditions of songs from various genres quickly gained him a significant online following. This viral success led to a record deal with Warner Records in early 2020.
Music Career
Teddy Swims released his debut major-label single, "Picky," in January 2020. He followed this with several EPs, including "Unlearning" (2021), "Tough Love" (2022), and "Sleep Is Exhausting" (2022). His music is known for blending elements of R&B, soul, country, and pop.
Breakthrough with "Lose Control" and Debut Album
Swims' international breakthrough came with the release of his single "Lose Control" on June 23, 2023. The song became a massive commercial success, topping the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States and reaching the top ten in numerous other countries. The track was the second single from his debut studio album, "I've Tried Everything But Therapy (Part 1)," released on September 15, 2023. The album was met with positive reception and performed well on international charts. He has since released a follow-up, "I've Tried Everything But Therapy (Part 2)". In 2024, MTV named him their "Push Artist of February".
