Biography

Morat is a Colombian band that has gained international recognition for their unique blend of pop and folk music. The band was formed in Bogotá, Colombia, and its members have known each other since they were five years old. The current lineup consists of Juan Pablo Isaza Piñeros (vocals, guitar), Juan Pablo Villamil Cortés (banjo, vocals), and brothers Simón Vargas Morales (bass, backing vocals) and Martín Vargas Morales (percussion, backing vocals). Originally, the band included drummer Alejandro Posada, who left in 2016 and was replaced by Martín Vargas.

Formation and Early Years

The members of Morat met at school in Bogotá and their shared passion for music brought them together. They initially called themselves "Malta." The name "Morat" was later adopted, inspired by the surname of a family member of an ex-member, Alejandro Posada, and the name of the farm, "La Morat," where they held their first rehearsals. The band's early musical influences included artists like Joaquín Sabina, the group Bacilos, and Coldplay. They gained initial experience by performing in bars and nightclubs around Bogotá.

Rise to Fame

Morat's international breakthrough came in 2015 with their single "Mi Nuevo Vicio," a collaboration with Mexican singer Paulina Rubio. This song achieved significant chart success in Spain and Latin America. Their subsequent single, "Cómo te atreves," further solidified their fame in Spain. In 2016, they released their debut studio album, "Sobre el amor y sus efectos secundarios." The band has since released several other successful albums, including "Balas perdidas" (2018), "¿A dónde vamos?" (2021), and "Si Ayer Fuera Hoy" (2022).

Musical Style and Success

Morat is known for their folk-pop sound, which incorporates instruments like the banjo and mandolin alongside traditional pop and rock elements. Their lyrics often explore themes of love, heartbreak, and nostalgia. The band has collaborated with numerous renowned Latin artists, including Juanes, TINI, Alejandro Fernández, and Álvaro Soler. Some of their most popular songs include "Cuando Nadie Ve," "Besos En Guerra," and "No Se Va." Morat has amassed billions of streams and has been recognized with multiple platinum albums and singles.
