Biography

MAGIC! is a Canadian reggae fusion band from Toronto, known for their distinctive pop and reggae-influenced sound. The band was formed in 2012 and currently consists of lead vocalist and producer Nasri Atweh, guitarist/keyboardist Mark "Pelli" Pellizzer, and bassist Ben Spivak. They are heavily inspired by acts like The Police and Bob Marley and the Wailers.

Career Beginnings and "Rude"

Before MAGIC!, lead singer Nasri was already an established songwriter and producer, part of the duo The Messengers with Adam Messinger. They wrote hits for artists like Justin Bieber, Pitbull, and Chris Brown. Nasri met Mark Pellizzer in the studio, and their artistic chemistry led to the idea of forming a "modern-day Police." The band signed with Sony Music Entertainment and released their debut single "Rude" in 2013. The song, about a man asking a father for his daughter's hand in marriage and being rejected, became a massive international success. In 2014, "Rude" topped the charts in the United States and the United Kingdom and reached the top ten in several other countries, including Australia and Canada. It became the ninth best-selling song of 2014 globally.

Albums and Subsequent Work

The band released their debut album, "Don't Kill the Magic," in 2014. It reached number 6 on the Billboard 200 in the US and number 5 in Canada. Following their debut, they released "Primary Colours" in 2016 and "Expectations" in 2018. Their fourth studio album, "Inner Love Energy," was released in 2024, following the departure of original drummer Alex Tanas in 2022. The band has also collaborated with other artists, notably featuring on Shakira's song "Cut Me Deep."
