Biography
LE SSERAFIM is a South Korean girl group formed by Source Music and Hybe Corporation. The group consists of five members: Sakura, Kim Chaewon, Huh Yunjin, Kazuha, and Hong Eunchae. The group's name is an anagram for the phrase "I'm Fearless," and it also alludes to the celestial beings known as seraphim.
Pre-Debut and Formation
Several members of LE SSERAFIM had prior experience in the entertainment industry before their debut. Sakura and Kim Chaewon were notably members of the project girl group IZ*ONE, which was formed through the Mnet survival show "Produce 48" in 2018. Huh Yunjin also participated in "Produce 48. " Kazuha was a professional ballet dancer who had studied at the Dutch National Ballet Academy. The final lineup was officially introduced in April 2022.
Debut and Breakthrough
LE SSERAFIM officially debuted on May 2, 2022, with the release of their first extended play (EP) "Fearless". The EP was a commercial success, breaking the record for the highest first-day sales for a K-pop girl group's debut album at the time. The group initially debuted as a sextet, but member Kim Garam departed in July 2022. Following their debut, the group released their second EP, "Antifragile," in October 2022. This release marked their first million-selling album and made them the fastest K-pop girl group to enter the U.S. Billboard 200 chart at the time.
