Biography

Keinemusik is a Berlin-based collective, record label, and creative powerhouse that has carved out a unique space in the electronic music world since its inception in 2009. The group consists of the core DJ and producer trio Adam Port, &ME (André Boadu), and Rampa (Gregor Sütterlin), along with DJ Reznik and visual artist Monja Gentschow, who is responsible for the label's distinctive artwork. The name, which translates from German to "no music," is a tongue-in-cheek reflection of their philosophy to challenge norms and not be confined by a single genre.

Formation and Philosophy

The members of Keinemusik came together through shared friendships and a mutual passion for a sound that wasn't being championed elsewhere. &ME and Rampa first connected as interns at a production studio, while Adam Port and Reznik were introduced through mutual friends. They officially formed the collective in 2009. Their mission from the outset was to create a platform for their own productions, refining house and techno with a unique, off-the-beaten-path approach. This ethos of creative freedom and a D.I.Y. spirit is central to the collective's identity.

Musical Style

Keinemusik's sound is a distinctive blend of house and techno, heavily influenced by a wide array of genres including afrobeat, hip-hop, and electronica. Their productions and DJ sets are often characterized by percussive, tribal rhythms, lush melodies, and an infectious, positive energy. This eclectic style has allowed them to create a sound that is equally at home in dark Berlin clubs as it is at sun-drenched beach parties. They have become known for their ability to blend soulful, emotive elements with driving dancefloor rhythms.

Discography and Notable Releases

As a label, Keinemusik has been prolific, releasing a consistent stream of EPs and albums since its founding. Initially, they focused on releasing music exclusively from the core members. In 2017, they released their debut collaborative album, "You Are Safe," which was a significant milestone that showcased their collective sound and featured various guest artists. This was followed by their second album, "Send Return," in 2021, which included collaborations with artists like Solomun and Little Dragon. The collective has also gained significant attention for their remixes and edits, including a popular remix of Moderat's "More Love" and viral edits of tracks by artists like Amr Diab.

Global Reach and Live Performances

Keinemusik has grown from a local Berlin phenomenon into a global movement. They are renowned for their captivating live performances, often playing together in back-to-back sets that showcase their seamless synergy. Their shows are visually distinctive, frequently featuring a large cloud symbol suspended above the DJ booth. The collective has performed at major festivals and venues worldwide, including Coachella, Tomorrowland, Burning Man, and iconic clubs in Ibiza. Their international touring has been instrumental in building a dedicated global fanbase.

Collaborations and Cultural Impact

Beyond their own music, Keinemusik has engaged in numerous collaborations and projects that have expanded their cultural influence. They have collaborated with fashion brands such as Nike and Civilist. In a notable crossover, the members were featured as characters in the video game Grand Theft Auto V. They also contributed to the production of two tracks on Drake's 2022 album, "Honestly, Nevermind," bringing their sound to a massive new audience. Rampa has also ventured into creating hardware with his company TEILE, which develops custom-built audio effects for DJs.
