Biography

John William Peter Newman (born 16 June 1990) is an English singer, songwriter, musician, and record producer. He is best known for the song "Love Me Again" which went to number one on the UK Singles Chart in 2013. Influenced by Motown and Northern soul from a young age, he began writing and producing music at 14. After moving to London, he collaborated with electronic music band Rudimental.

Career Breakthrough

In 2012, Newman featured on two of Rudimental's hit singles, "Feel the Love" and "Not Giving In". "Feel the Love" became a UK number one single, launching Newman into the public eye. His debut solo single, "Love Me Again," was released in July 2013 and topped the UK charts, achieving significant international success. His debut album, "Tribute," was released in October 2013 and also reached number one in the UK. The album included subsequent singles "Cheating" and "Losing Sleep".

Further Success and Collaborations

Newman's success continued with a feature on Calvin Harris's 2014 number one single, "Blame". His second studio album, "Revolve," was released in 2015 and reached number three on the UK Albums Chart, featuring the single "Come and Get It". He has also collaborated with artists like Sigala and Nile Rodgers on the 2016 track "Give Me Your Love". More recently, he has worked with David Guetta and MistaJam.

Personal Life and New Direction

Newman has been open about his health struggles, having been diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2012 and again in 2016, for which he has undergone treatment. In 2020, he announced he was taking a break from his solo career to focus on his mental health, citing feelings of depression related to his work. After this hiatus, Newman has re-emerged with a new focus on DJing, creating a hybrid live show that combines his vocals with mixing and beat triggering. He has performed at major dance music festivals like Tomorrowland. He married his wife Nana-Maria in 2018.
