Biography
Jessica Ellen Cornish, known professionally as Jessie J, was born on March 27, 1988, in London, England. Her career began at the age of 11 with a role in the West End musical "Whistle Down the Wind". She later attended the BRIT School, where she honed her skills alongside other future stars like Adele and Leona Lewis.
Career Beginnings and Breakthrough
Initially, Jessie J found success as a songwriter, penning tracks for artists such as Miley Cyrus, including the hit "Party in the U.S.A.", and Chris Brown. After a deal with Gut Records fell through when the company went bankrupt, she signed with Lava Records and Republic Records. Her debut single, "Do It Like a Dude," peaked at number two on the UK Singles Chart. This was followed by the international hit "Price Tag," featuring B.o.B, which reached number one in 19 countries, including the UK.
Her debut album, "Who You Are," was released in 2011 and charted at number two in the UK. The album produced a string of top-ten singles, including "Domino" and "Laserlight," making her the first British female artist to have six top-ten singles from a single album.
Studio Albums
Following her successful debut, Jessie J released several more albums. "Alive" (2013) featured the top-five single "Wild". Her third album, "Sweet Talker" (2014), included the global hit "Bang Bang" with Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj, which topped the UK charts. In 2018, she released the four-part album "R.O.S.E." and a holiday album, "This Christmas Day".
Television and Other Ventures
Jessie J has also made a name for herself on television. She served as a coach on "The Voice UK" (2012–2013, 2019 for the kids version) and "The Voice Australia" (2015–2016). In 2018, she became the first non-Chinese contestant to win the popular Chinese singing competition "Singer".
Personal Life and Health
Jessie J has been open about her health struggles. She was diagnosed with Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome at age 11 and suffered a minor stroke at 18. In 2020, she revealed she has Ménière's disease, an inner-ear condition. She has also shared her diagnoses of OCD and ADHD. In November 2021, she experienced a miscarriage. More recently, in June 2025, she announced she had been diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer and would be undergoing surgery. In May 2023, Jessie J and her partner, basketball player Chanan Colman, welcomed a son.
