Jazzy
Biography
Yasmine Byrne, known professionally as Jazzy, is an Irish dance-pop singer-songwriter born on September 19, 1996, in Dublin, Ireland. She grew up in Crumlin, a suburb of Dublin, and is of part Jamaican descent. From a young age, she showed an interest in music, learning to play the violin at Saint Agnes' Primary School. Music became an important outlet for her, especially as she navigated the challenges of growing up in a predominantly white community as a mixed-race girl.
Career Beginnings
Jazzy first gained public attention in 2020 as a member of the Dublin band Powerful Creative Minds, using the stage name "Jazzy Yaz". The group released several tracks, including "Baby Maybe" and "Vivid Dreams". In 2021, she was featured on Ben Rainey's cover of "Let Yourself Go".
Breakthrough with Belters Only
A significant turning point in Jazzy's career came through her collaboration with the DJ duo Belters Only. In November 2021, she was the lead vocalist on their track "Make Me Feel Good". The song was a massive success, reaching number 4 on the UK Singles Chart and number 1 on the Irish Singles Chart. This achievement made them the first Irish dance act to top the Irish charts since Mark McCabe's "Maniac 2000". They released a second single together, "Don't Stop Just Yet," in March 2022.
Solo Success
Jazzy launched her solo career in March 2023 with the release of her debut single, "Giving Me". The song was a major hit, peaking at number 3 on the UK Singles Chart and claiming the top spot on the Irish Singles Chart. This made her the first Irish solo female artist to reach number one in Ireland in over 14 years and the first Irish female artist to top the Spotify charts. She has since released other solo singles, including "Shooting Star" and "Feel It".
Musical Style
Jazzy's music is primarily categorized as dance-pop, house, and eurodance. Her sound is characterized by an imposing and alluring vocal range, perfect for club-ready anthems. Her teenage years spent clubbing and her interest in DJing have heavily influenced her musical style.
