Faye Webster
Biography
Faye Webster is an American singer-songwriter and photographer from Atlanta, Georgia. Born on June 25, 1997, she was raised in a musical family; her mother was a guitarist and fiddle player, and her grandfather was a bluegrass guitarist. This upbringing influenced her early sound, and she began writing songs at the age of 14. While in high school, she was part of a rap collective.
Musical Career
At 16, Webster self-released her debut album, "Run and Tell" (2013), which had a distinct Americana and folk sound. After graduating high school, she briefly attended Belmont University in Nashville to study songwriting but soon dropped out, feeling the commercial focus of the program wasn't for her, and returned to Atlanta. She made a deal with her parents to pursue music for a year, and if unsuccessful, she would return to college.
In 2017, she signed with Awful Records and released her self-titled sophomore album, "Faye Webster". This album marked a shift in her style, incorporating elements of R&B and indie pop into her folk sound. She later signed with Secretly Canadian in 2018 and released "Atlanta Millionaires Club" in 2019. This album, named after her father's group of friends, continued to blend pedal steel guitar with R&B and hip-hop influences. Her fourth album, "I Know I'm Funny haha" (2021), earned her further critical acclaim and a spot on Barack Obama's list of favorite songs of the year with the track "Better Distractions". The album peaked at number ten on the Billboard Folk Albums chart. This was followed by the "Car Therapy Sessions" EP in 2022, which featured orchestral arrangements of her songs. Her fifth studio album, "Underdressed at the Symphony," was released in March 2024, followed by an international tour. In 2025, she signed with Columbia Records.
Musical Style
Faye Webster's music is known for its unique blend of indie folk, alt-country, and R&B. Her sound often features the pedal steel guitar, a staple of her music since her debut, alongside dreamy vocals and introspective lyrics. Her influences range from older country music she grew up with to the hip-hop scene in her native Atlanta. She has cited artists like Courtney Barnett and Aaliyah as inspirations.
Photography
Alongside her music career, Webster is an accomplished photographer. She began taking pictures of her friends, many of whom were rising rap artists like Lil Yachty and Offset from Migos. Her photography has been featured in publications like Billboard and Rolling Stone. In 2017, Nike hired her to shoot an ad campaign for the re-release of their Air Max 97 sneakers.
Personal Life
Webster is a passionate fan of the Atlanta Braves baseball team, a theme that has appeared in her music, notably in the song "A Dream with a Baseball Player". Her hobbies also include yo-yoing, and she has even designed and sold her own custom yo-yo.
